Meeting 6 - Business to Media: Mutual understanding between palm oil industry and media on environment. Senior editors of well-known media and leaders of palm oil industry will discuss the topic. The meeting aims to promote mutual understanding between the media and palm oil industry particularly on current hot issues faced by the industry particularly environment. The organising committee plans to record the meeting for future TV network broadcasting. Open-end questions to be covered (but should not limit the discussion as long as it fits the topic) are:
- Is palm oil produced in sustainable way? Is there any sustainable vegetable oil anyway?
- Balancing the coverage of media on palm oil issues – good and bad. How to promote mutual understanding between the media and the industry?
Meeting 7 – Business to Community: The role of palm oil industry in community development. The objective of the meeting is to discuss the role of palm oil industry in developing a region and its community, the issues and conflicts related to community dynamic in relation palm oil development, and to share experiences on CSR /CD projects of palm oil companies. There will be space for poster presentation in the hall to facilitate further discussion. This will give the opportunity for the palm oil companies to showcase their involvement in community development. Interested persons/companies are encouraged to submit the abstract. The open-end questions or thematic subjects to be discussed include:
- Social conflicts – what lessons have been learnt so far?
- CSR – is that effective to ease social conflict?
- Community in undeveloped area – are they ready to have palm oil industry in their area?
Poster sessions to be held during the breaks (refreshment and lunch) are to encourage discussion in a relax atmosphere. WPOSE is dedicated to cover topics and issues related to the business of palm oil industry. Therefore, there will be no presentations (oral or poster) on scientific or very technical subjects during the event. We give special attention to the posters on CSR /CD and Sustainable Palm Oil. However, other topics will also be considered.
